Akiko Kuwahata was born in Japan, studied architecture and worked as a cabinet maker in Japan. In 2004, she came to Denmark to study furniture design at The Aarhus School of Architecture.
Ken Winther was born in Denmark and grew up in a cabinet maker´s family, making him the 3rd generation of cabinet makers. He has been working as cabinet maker for more than 25 years.
Akiko and Ken started to work together in 2007. They have received several scholarships and won the award “Håndfuglen” as well as a bronze medal at the award Kunsthåndværkerprisen af 1897. They were invited to participate in Everyday Life – Signs of Awareness at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa Japan. They have exhibited in Milan and Copenhagen with MINDCRAFT.
