Gudmundur Ludvik

Gudmundur Ludvik, born in 1970, grew up in Iceland and developed an early fascination with understanding how things are made. His passion for wood and craftsmanship led him to train as a carpenter. After working in construction for several years, he pursued further studies in sculpture at the Icelandic Academy of Arts. In 1999, Ludvik moved to Copenhagen to study furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy. Shortly after completing his studies, he founded Studio Gudmundur Ludvik, where he explored opportunities in crafts, art, and design. Ludvik’s diverse background has given him a deep understanding of materials, production techniques, and technology. In 2010, he co-founded the industrial design studio Welling/Ludvik with Hee Welling, a former classmate. Today, Ludvik enjoys the balance of working both collaboratively and independently, fostering creativity and innovation. Although he has lived in Denmark for over 20 years, Ludvik remains closely connected to his Icelandic roots and frequently visits Iceland to appreciate its wild, unique landscapes.
